Description of Conduct

On 30 March 2026, the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) sought authorisation, on behalf of itself and its current and future members who offer home and contents insurance, to:

  • adopt and give effect to standard definitions of ‘taking reasonable steps to maintain’ and ‘wear and tear’ in home insurance policies, and
  • agree and implement public education campaigns (one by the ICA and one by participating insurers) to promote awareness and understanding of these standard definitions.

Authorisation is sought for 5 years.

The ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ invites the views of interested parties on this application for authorisation. Submissions are requested by 23 April 2026. If you wish to make a submission in relation to this matter, please lodge it via this .
