Description of Conduct

On 24 November 2025, Qantas Airways Limited (Qantas) and American Airlines Inc (American) (together, the Applicants) applied for revocation and substitution of authorisation AA1000532.

Qantas and American seek authorisation to continue their joint business, coordinating their operations between and within Australia and the United States, New Zealand, Canada and Mexico, under a Restated Joint Business Agreement and associated agreements.

The Restated Joint Business Agreement and associated arrangements contain provisions that relate to:

(a)        coordination of schedules and inventory

(b)        managing the Applicants’ capacity of services

(c)        sharing of revenues between the Applicants

(d)        cost reduction efforts and synergies

(e)        fixing tariffs

(f)        joint marketing

(g)        frequent flyer schemes

(h)        the Applicants’ commercial relationships with other airlines, and

(i)         information-sharing between the Applicants.

Authorisation is sought for 5 years.

On 1 April 2026, the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ granted interim authorisation to enable the conduct to continue while the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ assesses the substantive application.
