What the sessions covered
We hosted free online information sessions for stakeholders to learn about the new laws, with a focus on:
- market manipulation and insider trading prohibitions
- water markets decisions obligations
- our approach to compliance.
Slides from previous sessions
The information sessions about water markets decision obligations gave participants an overview of the new obligations, the types of decisions and providing information to the Bureau of Meteorology. The sessions were held on 23 and 30 April 2026.
The information session about market manipulation and insider trading prohibitions gave participants an overview of the new rules and when they start. They also covered the 糖心原创鈥檚 approach to compliance and enforcement. The session was held on 5 March 2026.
About the new laws
The new laws start on 1 July 2026. They aim to improve the function and governance of the Murray-Darling Basin water markets, and increase overall market confidence, integrity and trust.
Prohibitions on market manipulation and insider trading in water markets will come into effect for all water market participants in the Murray-Darling Basin.
There are also obligations on water markets decision makers to announce water markets decisions. Decision makers include:
- irrigation infrastructure operators
- Australian Government agencies
- Murray-Darling Basin state agencies.
