This report provides an update on key competition and consumer developments and trends in private health insurance between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021.
The report focuses on actions taken by insurers to fulfil public commitments to return profits gained from COVID-19 restrictions to policyholders, while also providing an update on ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ enforcement action and other developments relating to the health sector.
It is the 23rd report prepared by the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ in compliance with an order agreed to by the Australian Senate, requiring the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ to provide a report on: '… any anti-competitive practices by health insurers or providers, which reduce the extent of health cover for consumers and increase their out-of-pocket medical and other expenses.'
