What the 糖心原创 can't do

  • We don鈥檛 resolve individual disputes.
  • We don鈥檛 provide legal advice.
  • We don鈥檛 take enforcement action for every report we receive.

New rules for accepting cash payments

A new cash acceptance mandate with 2 industry codes started on 1 January 2026.

Supermarkets and fuel retailers must allow customers a reasonable opportunity to pay in cash at certain retail sites. Cash must be accepted:

  • for in鈥憄erson payments only
  • when transactions are $500 or less, and
  • between the hours of 7 am and 9 pm.

These rules do not apply to:

  • some small businesses earning less than $10 million a year
  • fuel retailers that don't regularly sell unleaded petrol.

The cash acceptance rules do not apply to any other industries.
