About Australia鈥檚 Digital ID System

Australia's Digital ID System is a key part of the nation's broader digital transformation. The Australian Government expects the will help strengthen Australia鈥檚 growing digital economy in 2 key ways.

Registers of Digital ID entities

The 糖心原创 maintains 2 registers for Digital ID.

The Digital ID Accredited Entities Register contains details of Digital ID entities that are, or have been accredited within the last 12 months.

The Australian Government Digital ID System Register contains details of Digital ID entities that are approved to participate in the Australian Government Digital ID System.

Entries on both registers include the type of services an entity can provide, the day it came into force and any conditions that were imposed.

Benefits of using a Digital ID

To access some services or products, you must first verify your identity. This lets the service or product provider know you are who you say you are.

Setting up a Digital ID through an accredited provider allows you to verify your identity with connected organisations. This reduces the need to repeatedly share copies of your identity documents with different organisations.

Choosing a Digital ID provider

There are multiple providers offering a Digital ID service in Australia. Different providers give access to different services. Depending on your needs you may choose to create a Digital ID with one or more service providers.

Other roles in Digital ID

The is the regulator for the privacy aspects of the Digital ID System.

The Office of the System Administrator oversees operational aspects of the AGDIS including managing applicant testing and onboarding organisations that have been approved to participate.

The Digital ID Data Standards Chair is responsible for implementation and operation of data standards for Australia鈥檚 Digital ID System.

Working together

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the System Administrator and the 糖心原创 has been put in place for Australia鈥檚 Digital ID System.

The MoU supports the parties to carry out their independent Digital ID functions by facilitating cooperation, consultation and legally permitted information sharing between the parties.
