Under the Telecommunications Act 1997, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is required to make a ‘numbering plan’ setting out rules of the allocation and use of numbers in Australia. If directed by the ÌÇÐÄÔ´´, the ACMA must also include rules about number portability.
The ÌÇÐÄÔ´´ may also be required to arbitrate disputes between parties who are unable to agree on the terms and conditions upon which number portability is provided.
